Üylenu toi is the wedding itself, hosted by the groom's family and usually the largest celebration in a Kazakh family's life: hundreds of guests, both sides of the family, neighbours and colleagues. The invitation has to show respect to the elders and give exact details: date, start time and the banquet hall's address.

What a Kazakh wedding invitation says

Traditionally the invitation comes from the groom's parents, the toi iyeleri (hosts), rather than from the couple: "we invite you to the wedding of our son [name] and our daughter-in-law [name]".

It must include the couple's names, the date and start time, the restaurant and its exact address with a map pin. Many families add the time of the betashar (the bride's unveiling) and of the neke qiyu (the religious marriage), plus an organiser's phone number.

Older relatives are usually written to in Kazakh. Friends, colleagues and guests from abroad often get Russian or English, and one invitation can carry several languages.

If you are a guest from abroad

A Kazakh toi usually starts later than the time on the invitation and runs for many hours, with toasts (tilek), music and a host (asaba) leading the evening.

Gifts are most often money in an envelope. Dress is formal, and a short toast prepared in advance is appreciated if you are asked to speak.

Why an online invitation works for a toi

One link reaches relatives in other cities and countries in seconds; there is nothing to print or deliver.

Guests open the map straight from the invitation, and their replies tell you how many tables to book. If the time or venue changes, you edit the page and the link stays the same.
